Central Air Conditioning
Air Conditioning units are rated in S.E.E.R's, which stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (Similar to Miles Per Gallon on a car). The higher the number the less it costs you to run. A 16 SEER Air Conditioning unit will be twice as efficient as an 8 SEER. All Air Conditioning units today are required to be at least 13 SEER. Most Air Conditioining units 10 years or newer are most likely 10 SEER, 10-20 years are most likely 8 SEER, and over 20 years are most likely 6 SEER.

Refrigerant / Freon
Most current Air Conditioning systems contain a freon called R-22. As of January 1st, 2010 New equipment containing R-22 refrigerant will no longer be manufactured. R-22 is replaced by Puron 410-A. You can still purchase R-22 Freon for existing systems until the year 2020, after that everyone should have switched to Puron 410-A
